How an ultrasound examination of the heart is done

During the cardiac ultrasound examination, you lie on your left side with your upper body bare. The cardiologist will apply an easy-to-clean gel to the skin to improve the visibility of the ultrasound machine.

The examination takes between 5 to 15 minutes. The doctor will give you the results straight away, so you will need 20–40 minutes in total.
