Computed tomography (CT scan) – precise diagnostics quickly and safely

A CT scan, or computed tomography, is a modern and highly accurate X‑ray examination that produces detailed cross‑sectional images of different parts of the body. The examination is quick, painless and often crucial for establishing the correct diagnosis and planning treatment.

Sydänkeskus provides CT examinations with a modern mobile CT unit, which enables high‑quality imaging flexibly at different locations. The unit is equipped with the latest‑generation technology, allowing comprehensive imaging of the heart, blood vessels, brain, lungs, abdominal organs, musculoskeletal system and much more.

What does a CT scan mean?

In computed tomography, X‑rays rotate around the body and create detailed cross‑sectional images with the help of a computer. These images can also be reconstructed into three‑dimensional (3D) views, which assist in:

  • assessing vascular narrowings
  • locating tumours and inflammations
  • examining the structures of internal organs
  • analysing bone injuries

Sydänkeskus mobile CT unit – advanced technology on the move

The Sydänkeskus mobile CT unit brings specialised imaging close to the patient.

Benefits:

  • Modern and highly accurate equipment
  • Fast examination and quick turnaround
  • Wide range of examinations
  • Special expertise in cardiac and vascular imaging
  • Possibility for contrast‑enhanced studies

The mobile unit makes it possible to provide services flexibly in different locations without requiring the patient to travel far.

How to access a CT scan

With a doctor’s referral

A CT scan is performed with a doctor’s referral (occupational health, health centre, private doctor or specialist). The referral specifies the area to be examined and whether contrast agent is needed. The appointment is scheduled based on the referral.

You can also contact Sydänkeskus directly. We help you choose the appropriate examination and, if needed, guide you to a doctor’s assessment before the scan.

Through occupational health or insurance

Many examinations are performed through occupational health services or insurance companies. We provide the necessary information for reimbursement processing.

How the appointment process works

  1. The referral arrives or you contact us
  2. You receive an appointment for the examination
  3. You receive preparation instructions
  4. The examination usually takes 5–15 minutes
  5. The report is sent to the referring physician

What is a CT scan like?

Computed tomography is a quick imaging method. The total duration of the visit is about half an hour. The examination usually does not require follow‑up afterwards and does not restrict normal daily activities.

Is a referral always required?

Yes. A doctor’s referral is always required for a CT scan.

Because the examination uses X‑ray radiation and often also contrast agent, the necessity and suitability of the scan are always assessed by a doctor before the appointment is scheduled.

If you do not yet have a referral, you can contact Sydänkeskus – we will guide you to a doctor’s assessment before the examination if needed.
